2005 Education Grants

In June 2005 the PacifiCorp Foundation for Learning awarded more than $300,000 to 47 nonprofit programs in 24 communities in California, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.  The following are some of the organizationsawarded grants for projects that further the Foundation’s mission to foster strategic sustainable learning initiatives that serve the best aspirations of individuals, organizations and communities, and that enhance and develop their capabilities to address significant challenges and opportunities:

EARLY LITERACY GRANTS

  • Oregon Project Optimize — direct contributions to the six elementary schools
  • Idaho's PAT Plus — third of three-year commitment
  • Utah Motheread/Fatheread — challenge grant
  • Washington Motheread/Fatheread — second of three-year commitment
  • Wyoming Raising Readers —  challenge grant

  • Absaroka Head Start (Worland, Wyo.) — early childhood literacy program
  • Alpine School District Foundation (American Fork, Utah) STARS summer reading program 
  • Benton Literacy Council (Corvallis, Ore.) — summer reading program  
  • Chamber Latino Network (Medford, Ore.) — college scholarship program  
  • College of Eastern Utah (Price) — engineering and education scholarship programs
  • Concordia University (Portland, Ore.) — nursing skills program
  • Davis Arts Council (Layton, Utah — Blues in the Schools program for 4th grade students
  • Davis Education Foundation (Farmington, Utah) — teacher grants for class projects
  • Fishtrap, Inc. (Enterprise, Ore.) — connecting with schools programs for K-12   
  • Grants Pass High School Foundation (Grants Pass, Ore.) — 'College Dreams' college preparation and alumni mentoring project
  • Guadalupe Center Educational Programs, Inc. (Salt Lake City) The Summer Institute for K-3rd grade
  • Heritage University (Toppenish, Wash.) — scholarship program
  • Jordan Education Foundation, Inc. (Sandy, Utah) mini- grants program for innovative class projects
  • Junior Achievement Columbia Empire (Portland, Ore.) — program support
  • Junior Achievement of Utah (Salt Lake City) — program support  
  • National Energy Foundation (Salt Lake City) — Safety & Security in Utah schools program
  • Oregon Council for Hispanic Advancement (Portland) — LISTOS alternative learning center summer program 
  • Oregon Independent College Foundation (Portland) — scholarship program
  • Portland State University Graduate School of Education (Portland, Ore.) — summer tutoring program
  • Saturday Academy (Portland, Ore.) — apprenticeships in science and engineering summer symposium
  • Schoolhouse Supplies (Portland, Ore.) — Tools for Schools project
  • School's Out Washington (Yakinma, Wash.) — Feed Your Brain program in rural communities
  • ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum (Ashland, Ore.) — support to increase the availability to outreach programs  
  • Siskiyou Early Head Start (Yreka, Cal.) — promote early literacy from birth-to-3     
  • SMART (Portland, Ore.) — program support throughout Oregon
  • Southern Utah University (Cedar City, Utah) — First-Generation scholarships
  • Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism (Pendleton, Ore.) — expand programs to Pendleton area
  • Sue Jorgensen Library Foundation (Casper, Wyo.) — Casper Cares, Casper Reads  
  • University of Oregon - Materials Science Institute (Eugene) — K-12 science education outreach program
  • University of Utah College of Nursing (Salt Lake City) — student outreach Program
  • University of Wyoming Foundation (Laramie, Wyo.) — scholarships and other programs
  • Utah Museum of Natural History (Salt Lake City) — Youth Teaching Youth program
  • Utah State University - College of Engineering (Logan) — undergraduate student scholarships
  • Utah State University (Logan) — Engineering State program to encourage high school students in engineering, math, science, technology
  • Weber State University (Ogden, Utah) — Literacy in Families (Together) educational training program
  • Westminster College (Salt Lake City, UT) — Center for Service-Learning
  • Whitman College (Walla Walla, Wash.) — internship fund

SMALL COMMUNITY CAPITAL PROJECTS

  • Emery County EMT Association (Castle Dale, Utah) — PDA STAT Simulator Mannequin Life Support training device
  • Fountain Green City (Utah) theater/dance hall restoration project
  • J Bar J Youth Services (Bend, Ore.) — purchase/renovate facility for integrated homeless youth programs
  • Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation (Lebanon, Ore.) — expand health training through new Samaritan Health Career Training Center
  • Tapiola Playground Project (Astoria, Ore.) — rebuild playground equipment
